Interior Designers
If you want to do something new with your home, you have two options. You can do it yourself, or you can look into hiring interior decorators. When you do the latter, you do have to put your trust in someone else, but you may find they can do things with your home that you never would have imagined on your own. They can do things with colors and fabrics that you may not have ever seen before, and you will find that they are good at picking up on your personality to design something just for you.
You can have problems if you pick the wrong interior decorators, however. If you have ever watched Trading Spaces you know what I mean. I realize it is a TV show, but you have to wonder what some of those designers are thinking at times. They have done things to rooms that should be considered illegal. They are for the most part great interior decorators though, and perhaps they just get a little goofy on occasion for the heck of it. All I know is that if anyone ever painted my living room dark brown I would freak out.
When you go looking for interior decorators, make sure you ask to see examples of what they have done in the past. Don’t just see a few pictures either; look through their entire portfolio if you can. Also make sure that any interior decorators that you are considering have a good rapport with your. They should have their own ideas, but they should not be so stuck on their own ideas that they don’t listen to what you have to say or what you want to do. It is your house after all.
Good interior decorators will have good ideas for you, but they will ask you want you want done, and they most certainly will not tear down your ceiling fan if you don’t want them to. As far as I’m concerned, good interior decorators will do the best they can with what they are presented with. Make sure you aren’t expecting too much if you are putting limitations on them, and always remember to get a detailed account of what they plan to do before you allow them to begin. This is something you will have to live with for a long time to come. If you really have no clue, you have to find someone you can just let go with whatever they want to do.
