Cell Phones
Recycling cell phones for money is an example of dealing with electronic waste. Electronics recycling for the component materials is a thankless task. For instance, computer recycling is so easy that there is no money in it. But our approach to recycling electronics is not all high-principled money-wasting ideals. We are out to make a profit, and a big profit at that.
What Makes A Good Business?
You must be able to buy cheaply and sell expensively.
Recycling electronic goods obviously meets the first criterion. You can’t get cheaper than free. Drive round the annual rubbish collection beside the road, and pick up all the electronic recycling stuff you want, for nothing.
However, you must still be able to sell it at a profit. If you recycle electronics computers for instance there is so much competing second-hand stuff that you would need to be a world-class salesman to make a good income from the business. And if you are a world-class salesman you should be living in luxury and not worrying about recycling.
I’ve Found the Perfect Business
There’s only a trickle out there - a few millions - but there will soon be billions with thousands of competitors raking in profits from a few millions each, so I’m not worried about competition.
How would you like to create an avalanche of free units and know of a company that will buy units in any damaged condition? No salesmanship is needed. Oh, did I mention that the USA government will pay people to give you these units with a legal tax deduction - you won’t even need to be a super-salesman to persuade them to accept a tax deduction!
These units are toxic waste. That’s why the government doesn’t want them dumped in the landfill. So you can feel all good and virtuous because you’re helping the environment. If do don’t want the money yourself you can even give it to non-profit organizations and feel even more virtuous. Me - I’m a money-grabber and I don’t feel at all virtuous.
Common Business Problems
- Business difficult to enter. This one is very easy.
- Steep learning curve. This business is a no-brainer as long as you can keep track of your money.
- You live in a country that nobody has ever heard of - no problem
- The profit margin is high - considering that you get units free, how do you calculate the margin? You’ll get at least $1 for each unit, even if it has been smashed. So let’s see - for a million units that would be…
- Unreliable supply? Only about five or ten million units are being replaced each month now but that is because these units haven’t been around for long.
- Will the business give you self-respect as well as money? How would you like to make huge profits while helping keep our environment clean and healthy?
- I’m not as fit as I used to be. Can I carry these units? Well, they are cell phones - can you carry them?
Of course, you will need more information than I have given you to make this business a success, but not very much. As I mentioned, recycling cell phones is really a no-brainer once you have found out the simple details about getting them and selling them.
